How it works

Plan your three days of fasting

  1. 1

    Spot the next ones

The banner shows the next three white days and how long until they come.

  2. 2

    Plan the year

The table lists the next twelve months, each with its 13th, 14th and 15th.

  3. 3

    Watch out for Dhul-Hijjah

That month, the 13th is a day of Tashriq: choose other days in the month instead.

What are the white days?

The white days (ayyam al-bid) are the 13th, 14th and 15th of each Hijri month. They get their name because their nights are lit by the full moon. Fasting three days a month is a recommended practice (sunnah), and a hadith reported by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i specifies these three days.

How the dates are calculated

The dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, the one used by the QuranWay app. If your community starts the month with the crescent sighting, your white days may be one day apart: check when the month was announced to begin where you live.

The Dhul-Hijjah exception

The 13th of Dhul-Hijjah is one of the days of Tashriq (the 11th, 12th and 13th), when there is no fasting. That month, choose other days for your three days of fasting.

If you miss one

Fasting three days a month still counts on other dates in the month: the white days are the recommended days, not a requirement.

And every day, right in your pocket

The QuranWay app's calendar shows the next white days with a countdown in days, alongside the other dates of the Hijri year.

Frequently asked questions

When are the next white days?

The next three dates are shown at the top of the page, recalculated every day with the Umm al-Qura calendar.

Why are they called the white days?

Because the nights of the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar month are lit by the full moon.

Can you fast the white days in Dhul-Hijjah?

The 13th of Dhul-Hijjah is a day of Tashriq, when there is no fasting. That month, choose three other days in the month.

Do the white days fall on the same day everywhere?

Not always. If your country starts the month with the crescent sighting, the dates may be one day off from this calendar.
